Bourne Society Awards
Jeoffry Spence, 1915 - 1992

Was the instigator and Chairman of the organising committee for the Caterham Railway centenary in 1956, and a founder member of the
 Bourne Society

At the inaugural meeting he was appointed Vice-Chairman, and became Vice-President in 1961 when that office was first filled

He held this position for 27 years until the death of Bill Newman when he was elected President

His major written contribution to local history was his book "The Caterham Railway" published 1952, revised and reprinted in 1986

He went on to write "A Childhood in Caterham in the 1920s" his recollections of his early life in the district, published in 1991 by the Society

Other publications include two railway books, and contributions to other railway publications, Guide books to the churches of St Lawrence and St Mary, and many contributions to the Bourne Societies publications
